Mikayel Khachatryan was promoted to full time assistant tennis coach back in July 2024 after joining the UT Arlington tennis coaching staff in the fall of 2023 as a graduate assistant coach.
As a grad assistant, Khachatryan helped the men's tennis team repeat as regular season and tournament champions of the Western Athletic Conference.
A native of Yerevan, Armenia, Khachatryan joined the Mavs after a three-year stint in a similar role with Georgia Southern after beginning his position there in June 2020. Outside of his college coaching, Khachatryan was the head pro at Sippican Country Club in Marion, Mass., East Chop Country Club in Martha's Vineyard as well as Round Hill Country Club in Greenwich, Conn.
Khachatryan competed at Eastern Washington University, primarily at the No. 1 position, from 2018-20. While there, he was a two-time Big Sky All-Academic Team selection. Prior to his time at EWU, he competed for Pacific University.
Before that, Khachatryan trained at Bruguera Tennis Academy in Barcelona for 10 years - starting at the age of 12 - under the coaching of Fernando Luna and Sergi Bruguera, a former French Open Champion. He was also the No. 1 ranked Davis Cup player for Armenia in juniors and seniors, and he was a two-time Armenian Cup and Pan Armenian Games champion.
