In 2011, Cordero Gray made the transition from being one of the most highly decorated UT Arlington athletes in program history to embarking on a coaching career at his alma mater. He is now in his fourth season working with the Mavericks. Gray[apos]s on-track achievements are numerous. He was a two-time All-America honoree during his four-year career and graduated holding with school records in the 60m and the 100m. The Arlington native also won five individual Southland Conference championships, including four as a senior. During his senior year, Gray broke both school records and was named Second-Team All-America in the 100m, 200m and as a member of the 4x100m relay. He also won four individual Southland Conference championships and finished as the High Point Scorer both indoors and outdoors. In addition, Gray was named SLC Athlete of the Year during outdoor and was named Outstanding Track Event during indoor. Gray broke the school record in the 100m during the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships by clocking a time of 10.12. During the indoor season, he tied the school record with a time of 6.67 in the 60m at the Houston Indoor Invitational. Gray, who is also pursuing a professional career in track and field, serves as a volunteer coach this season, working primarily with the sprinters. In 2012, he reached the semifinals of the U.S. Olympic Trials, posting a time of 10.20 in the 100 meters.
