Todd Cruff joined the UT Arlington staff in November of 2022 after spending seven years as the Sports Information Director at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas.
Originally joining the UTA staff as the Assistant Communications Director for primarily the baseball team, Cruff transitioned over to the women’s basketball team for the 2023-24 season.
Cruff is coming off his second season working with the Lady Mavs and head coach Shereka Wright. Since his transition, Cruff has covered a WAC Tournament semifinals appearance and a finals appearance along with several key milestone moments in program history such as the second, third and fourth triple doubles in program history, the program’s 750th win and fifth WNIT appearance, as well as coach Wright’s 50th career win and when she became the program’s fifth winningest coach.
During his lone season with the baseball team in 2023, Cruff worked alongside first year head coach Clay Van Hook in what was a new era for Maverick baseball as they entered the Western Athletic Conference. The team had a 14-game win improvement from the previous season while finishing 29-29 which culminated in a WAC Tournament semifinals appearance. Cruff brought a breath of fresh air to the program from a social aspect, adding 1,500 to the growing the twitter account to reach over 10k in his lone season.
Cruff also covers the men’s and women’s tennis teams along with the men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams and has since his arrival. During those three seasons, he has covered three regular season tennis championships (2 men and 1 women) along with back-to-back tournament titles for the men’s tennis team. Cruff has covered three student athletes that have competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships.
The first foray into the world of sports information for Cruff, as he was hired by longtime HT faculty member and former Athletic Director, Charles H. Dubra. While at HT, Cruff was instrumental in the implementation, design and maintenance of a brand-new website specifically designed for Rams athletics. Cruff created, maintained and grew the HT social media brand which included partnerships with the Austin Spurs, Austin FC and the Round Rock Express. He also assisted with the baseball program, served on the homecoming committee and ran the intramural program for a brief stint.Â
A 2014 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, Cruff earned his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. While attending UTA, Cruff ran a sports talk show on the university’s student ran radio station, UTA Radio, entitled Cruff’nStein with co-host and friend Tre Stein, where they brought on several former professional athletes which included former Buffalo Bills running back Kenneth Davis and Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton of the Minnesota Vikings. Cruff also worked as an assistant manager at Lids while attending school and this continued for almost one full year after his graduation from UTA before landing into the college athletics scene.
Cruff is the youngest of retired Army Chief Warrant Officer William and Vicki Cruff of Pulaski, Virginia. He has one brother, Scott, an assistant principle at Fort Stockton High School and one sister, Bobbi, whom is the head softball coach and a special ed teacher at Mansfield Lake Ridge High School. Cruff graduated high school in 2008 from Ellison High School in his hometown of Killeen, Texas, the same high school his brother and sister graduated from. He currently resides in Grand Prairie, Texas.
