2025-26 WBB Kayla Wells Headshot

Kayla Wells

  • Title
    Graduate Assistant
Kayla Wells enters her first season as a graduate assistant for the Lady Mavs and head coach Shereka Wright.

Prior to her arrival in Arlington, Wells played professionally overseas along with USA Basketball in FIBA. She signed a training camp contract with the Chicago Sky after wrapping up her storied college career at Texas A&M, where she played five seasons for the Aggies from 2017-22.

Wells finished her tenure as the program’s all-time leader in games played (153) while finishing No. 5 in the A&M record books in points scored (1,768). She was selected to the preseason All-SEC second team in the 2020-21 season while also appearing on the Cheryl Miller Award watch list. Wells was the most-improved scorer in the Southeastern Conference, raising her average from 2.8 in 2017-18 to 15.1 points per game in 2018-19. In that same season, she hit the game-winning shot with 5.3 seconds left against Auburn, sending A&M to the SEC Tournament Semifinals. Her 28 points against Auburn in 2019 still stand as the most by a Texas A&M player in an SEC Tournament game since the Aggies joined the league in 2012-13.

Wells was a standout prep player at South Grand Prairie High School (2013-2017) where she was a three-year starter for the varsity basketball team. Tabbed as a four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 26 guard and No. 86 prospect in the 2017 signing class. She was a First Team All-State Selection and named the District 7-6A Offensive Player of the Year in 2017. Was also named the 2015-16 District 8-6A Offensive Player of the Year after averaging 16.2 points as a junior in 2015-16 for South Grand Prairie.
