Arlington native and former Maverick women[apos]s basketball player, Ashley Purgason was named director of basketball operations by head coach Samantha Morrow in August. Purgason will be the fourth member of Morrow[apos]s staff and will assist with travel, recruiting and academics. Purgason was a three-year letter winner for Morrow at Mansfield High School, where she played with Maverick assistant coach Erin Grant. Together Purgason and Grant led Mansfield to its second, third and fourth straight 5A state championships. After spending one year at New York University, Purgason transferred to UT Arlington and graduated with honors in May 2006 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. She walked-on to the Maverick women[apos]s basketball team and played 12 games as a sophomore before an injury cut her playing career short.
