Wendell Moore joins the UT Arlington men's basketball as an Assistant Coach in April 2026, with more than two decades of coaching experience spanning the NCAA Division I, junior college and high school ranks.
Most recently, Moore spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Lamar University, where he helped guide a remarkable turnaround under head coach Alvin Brooks. During his tenure, the Cardinals improved from a two-win campaign in his first season to a 20-win season and a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament Championship game in 2024-25. Lamar earned the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, set a school record with 14 league victories and recorded its highest tournament seed since 2008.
Prior to Lamar, Moore spent four seasons at Prairie View A&M, helping the Panthers establish themselves as one of the premier programs in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. During his time in Prairie View, the Panthers captured three SWAC regular-season championships, advanced to the 2019 NCAA Tournament and compiled a 73-49 overall record. Prairie View posted a 56-11 conference mark during that stretch, including an undefeated SWAC season in 2020-21 and a one-loss conference campaign in 2018-19.
Moore has played a key role in the development of numerous standout student-athletes throughout his career, including conference players of the year, defensive players of the year and multiple all-conference selections. At Prairie View A&M, he helped mentor the 2020 SWAC Player of the Year and the 2019 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Before joining Prairie View A&M, Moore spent two seasons at Butler Community College in Kansas, helping lead the Grizzlies to consecutive Region VI Final Four appearances. His coaching résumé also includes Division I stops at the University of Tulsa, UMKC and Florida Atlantic.
While at Tulsa, Moore assisted Conference USA Coach of the Year Danny Manning during the Golden Hurricane's 2013-14 conference regular-season and tournament championship run. He also contributed to the development of Conference USA Player of the Year James Woodard and future NBA veteran Shaquille Harrison.
Moore began his collegiate coaching career at Redlands Community College in Oklahoma, where the Cougars posted a 50-10 record over two seasons, produced two NJCAA All-Americans and helped numerous student-athletes advance to the Division I level.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Moore was a standout player at Georgia Southern University. He helped lead the Eagles to the 1992 Trans America Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance while helping the program set a school record with 25 victories. Moore earned all-conference honors during his playing career and finished as Georgia Southern's single-season record holder for steals and three-point field-goal percentage.
Moore earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern in 1993. He and his wife, Tamelia, have three children: Noah, Peydan and Aunni.
