Senior runner Lisa Haglund (Bastad, Sweden) was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Week after posting a time of 17-minutes, 55-seconds to take second place and lead the Texas-Arlington women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Splash Meet Friday, Oct. 4. It is the first Athlete of the Week honor bestowed by Hagland, a junior from Bastad, Sweden.
UTA had five runners finish in the top 20 as the Mavericks tallied 47 points, 14 more than team-winner Rice's 33.
Haglund's twin sister, Kasja, ran the three-mile course in 18:18:27 for sixth place. Courtney Carter (18:48/12th), Miranda Zuniga (18:57/16th) and Kristi Bird (19:01/20th) rounded out the top five. Nicole Noel finished 24th in the individual standings with a 19:13.
UTA returns to action Oct. 18 at the Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational in the squad's final tuneup before the Southland Conference Championships Nov. 3 in Huntsville, Texas.
