April 7, 2003

by Michelle Astacio, Sports Information Student Assistant

ARLINGTON, Texas --- The University of Texas at Arlington junior Kajsa Haglund (Bastad, Sweden) and senior Rukaiya Holland (Houston) both qualified for the 2003 NCAA Regional Championships Saturday at the 76th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Haglund qualified in the 1500-meter run after running a 4:23.79. Haglund's time at the Texas Relays betters her career best, 4:25.92, which she ran at last years Texas Relays. The time also places her second on the UTA Women's Outdoor Top Performers list and the Southland Conference All-Time Best list, behind former Maverick Kristin Ahlepil in both. Haglund now currently leads the Southland Conference Women's Best for the season.

Holland qualified in the 100-meter dash after running an 11.62. This time places her third on the UTA Women's Outdoor Top Performers list. Holland's time at the Texas Relays betters her career best, 11.64, which she ran in the 2000 Outdoor season.

The UTA men's and women's track and field teams will return to action April 12 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
