ARLINGTON, Texas - The University of Texas at Arlington head baseball coach Jeff Curtis has announced the signing of Dillon Farish and Hardy Hutto to National Letters of Intent to attend the university and play baseball for the Mavericks beginning in the Fall of 2003. Farish and Hutto become the 16th and 17th players to sign for next season.
Farish, a 6-1, 170 pound second baseman and pitcher from Midland, joins the Mavericks after an outstanding career at Midland High School. During his three-year varsity career, Farish helped lead the team to a 91-21 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in district play in 2003. As a sophomore he was a part of the 5A Texas State Championship team and helped lead the team to the regional semifinals his junior and senior seasons. During his senior campaign, Farish hit .371 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 34 RBI. He also spent time on the mound as he owned an 8-1 record with a 2.29 ERA with six saves. He struck out 45 batters in 42.2 innings of work on the season. His numbers were even more impressive during district play as he did not allow and earned run. As a junior, Farish hit .357 at the plate and owned a 2.14 ERA on the mound. For his efforts on the diamond, he received all-District honors his junior and senior seasons as a middle infielder and pitcher. Farish earned first team all-District laurels as a second baseman and pitcher after his senior campaign. He was selected to play for the south team in the Coaches Association All-Star game after his senior year and played on Team Texas at the Senior Sun Belt after his junior year.
Hutto, a 6-4, 210 pound right-handed pitcher from Cedaredge, Co., comes to UTA after earning second team all-Jayhawk West honors at Garden City Community College. Under the direction of head coach Rick Sabath, Hutto owned a 5-5 record with a 4.01 ERA last season. Hutto pitched 59.1 innings during the season with 50 strikeouts and 29 walks. Hutto was drafted in 2002 by Cincinnati Reds, but did not sign.
The Mavericks finished the 2003 season with an overall record of 37-25, and an 18-9 mark in the Southland Conference.
