COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Texas-Arlington women's cross country team used a top-25 performance from senior Lisa Haglund to take 10th place at the Texas A&M Invitational here Saturday.
Host Texas A&M won both men's and women's divisions. The Aggie men tallied 27 total points while the women finished with 35 points to easily outdistance second-place TCU 35-58. UTA was 10th in the 17-team field with 242 points. For the university men's division, A&M was 50 points better than Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin, 27-77. UTA finished 13th in the 16-team field with 302 points.
Haglund (Bastaad, Sweden) finished 23rd in the team standings with a time of 23-minutes, 16-seconds over the 6,000-meter course. Courtney Carter (23:47/41st), Ivorita Taylor (24:00, 44th), Nicole Noel (24:23/59th) and Kristi Bird (25:18/75th) rounded out the UTA results.
For the UTA men, Jacob Cedertun was the top Maverick for the second meet in a row. He clocked a time of 26:48 over 8,000-meters for 37th place. Other UTA runners include: Daniel Noah (27:14, 47th), Stefan Johansson (28:08, 63rd), Demery Cox (28:52, 77th) and Josh Smith (28:53/78th).
UTA returns to action Oct. 3 for the Texas A&M Corpus-Christi Cross Country Splash. The Southland Conference Cross Country Championships are Nov. 3 in Huntsville, Texas.
