LADY MAVS ROLL TO 84-48 VICTORY OVER NICHOLLS STATE

Jan. 29, 2004

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Texas - Terra Wallace poured in a career-high 21 points and Rola Ogunoye added 17 points and eight rebounds as Texas-Arlington built a 22-point lead in the first half enroute to a 84-48 victory over Nicholls State Thursday evening at Texas Hall.

UTA (10-8, 4-2 SLC) got on the board early as Sheena Johnson and Tojjinay Thompson scored on the first two possessions of the game giving the Lady Mavs the lead for good. UTA would push its lead near double figures as Ogunoye scored on a layup and then corralled an offensive rebound and put it up-and-in.

NSU (1-17, 0-7 SLC) would get to within seven points at the 10 minute mark before the Lady Mavs closed the half on a 25-12 run to take a 20-point lead into recess. The run was fueled by the playmaking ability of point guard Krystal Buchanan who handed out seven of her season-high nine assists in that first half.

Wallace proved to be instant offense in the first half as she established her UTA best with 14 first half points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.

The Lady Colonels came out in the second half and went on a run, trimming the advantage to 13-points with 17:33 to play in the second half as NSU connected on its first three shots of the half.

After the lead remained the same for the next few minutes, UTA went on a 22-2 run over the next 7:07 that put the game away.

UTA would push its lead to 38-points in the games final minutes as senior Shaye Yoakum converted a three-point play. Freshman Ashley Purgason would give the Lady Mavs their largest lead of the game at 39-points with a short jumper in the game's final half minute.

Wallace and Ogunoye were joined in double figures by Lewis with 14 points. UTA would use its bench throughout the game and 12 of the 14 players who saw action got in the scoring column. NSU was led by Marneshia Bryant with 13 points.

For the game, UTA shot 30-for-61 (.492) from the floor and a season-best 18-for-22 (.818) from the free throw line.

The Lady Mavs return to action as they head to Beaumont on Jan. 31 to take on Lamar. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Montagne Center.
