DALLAS, Texas - Sandy Farquharson and Niels Buksik each collected wins Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as SMU defeated Texas-Arlington 5-2 at the Haggar Tennis Stadium in Dallas. UTA closed out the regular season with a 13-9 overall mark.
SMU claimed the first team point after sweeping the doubles flights. Seniors David Corrie and Nathan McGregor dropped an 8-4 decision to Johan Brunstrom and Henrik Soderberg at the top position. The doubles tandems of Sandy Farquharson and Niels Buksik and Ian Vazquez-Rowe and Kyle Mims fell 8-2 at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
In singles action, SMU won four of six matches to secure its victory over the Mavericks. Farquharson handed Gwinyai Chingoka a 6-3, 6-4 loss at No. 3 singles while Buksik picked up the final UTA win, a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Lukasz Senczysczyn at the No. 4 position.
The Mavericks will use the next week to prepare to defend their SLC tournament crown at the postseason tournament April 29-May 1 in San Antonio.
