SMITH LEADS MAVERICKS TO FOUR-GAME VICTORY OVER DEMONS

ARLINGTON, Texas - Caley Smith and Ashley Van Antwerp combined for 31 kills as Texas-Arlington handed Northwestern State a 3-0 loss in Southland Conference volleyball action here Friday evening. Game scores in the match were 30-2-, 27-30, 30-16, 30-18 as the Mavericks improve to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.

After a 10-all score in game one, the Mavericks used a 20-10 run to put the Demons away, 30-20. UTA used a .417 clip compared to the .200 the Demons posted.

Northwestern State built an early lead over the Mavs in game two, twice leading by as many as five. The Demons continued to dominate the game, pushing their lead to eight at 27-19. UTA battled back using five straight points to pull within four, but it wasn't enough as the Demons split the match with a 30-27 win.

The Mavericks regained the momentum in game three and cruised to a 30-16 victory.

UTA used a .368 attack percentage in game three en route to a 30-18 win.

Senior Caley Smith paced the Mavs at the net with a match-high 16 kills, joined in double figures by Ashley Van Antwerp (15) and Morgan Rogers (14). Smith completed the double-double with a team high 18 digs. Rogers was close behind with 16 followed by Dani Johnson (14), Van Antwerp (12), Torie Dacus (11) and Heather Dunn (10).

The Mavericks recorded a season high 15.5 blocks in the match, led by Smith's five. Dunn dished out 49 assists in the win.

Isabela Duarte led the Demons with 12 kills and 20 digs.

Texas-Arlington returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Louisiana-Monroe at 4 p.m.
