FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — UT Arlington (2-1, 0-0 UAC) fell to Arkansas (2-0, 0-0 SEC) in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-17, on Saturday night at Barnhill Arena. The Mavericks recorded 37 kills and 35 assists in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set saw a closely contested match between UTA and Arkansas.
Sophia Krichev initiated the scoring with a kill, setting an early tone.
Camryn McMinn was a key player for the Mavericks, contributing multiple kills, including one that tied the score at 4-4. However, Arkansas responded with strategic plays and took advantage of several attack errors by the Mavericks. Laci Bohannan's consistent performance, including a decisive kill, played a significant role in the Razorbacks maintaining their lead. Despite a late service ace from UTA, Arkansas closed the set 25-20, with Bohannan securing the final point.
Arkansas secured the second set 25-22 against UTA in a tightly contested set marked by lead changes and momentum shifts. Bohannan was pivotal for the Razorbacks, contributing multiple kills, including a crucial one from Kiki Remensperger at 21-24.
Evyn Snook stood out for the Mavericks with a series of kills, including three consecutive points that brought the score to 11-7. However, Arkansas managed to regain composure and ultimately close the set, with the decisive point coming from a block by Romani Thurman and Layla Smith on a McMinn attack error.
Arkansas started the third set with a strong performance, securing the first three points with kills from Parker Duncan and Bohannan. UT Arlington responded with a run of their own, leveling the score at 3-3 and eventually taking the lead 5-3 following consecutive kills by McMinn. Arkansas regained control with a series of decisive plays, including multiple kills by Bohannan and a service ace by Gaby Cornier, extending their lead to 15-11. Despite efforts from UTA, including a kill by Snook, Arkansas maintained its momentum. The set concluded with an attack error by Krichev, blocked by Aleki Alexander and Bohannan, giving Arkansas a 25-17 victory in the set.
