GOLFERS SIT IN THIRD AT RIO PINAR

ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior Tyrone Mordt fireed a five-under-par 139 to lead UTA to a team score of 587, 14 strokes behind leader and host Central Florida after the opening day of the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate Tournament here Monday.

Darkness left golfers on the course at the end of the day Monday. UTA was among the team's to finish their second round, but Tulane and Louisville golfers were still on the course and will complete their second round. Tulane was in second place after the opening 18, four strokes behind Central Florida and Louisville was in a three-way tie for third at 296.

UTA currently stands in third place with a 36-hole total of 587 after a second round of two-over-par 290. Central Florida carded the day's best team score with a six-under-par 282 in the aftenoon round and a 573 over the 6,978-yard par-72 course. North Carolina-Wilmington is second at 597, six stroke behind the Golden Knights.

Mordt was the only Maverick to shoot under par on opening day. Senior Jordan Krantz fired a two-round total of 145 (73-72). Junior Jeff Murray rebounded from a morning round of 77 to shoot a 74 in the afternoon. Zack Reeves carded rounds of 77-75 (152) and Marc Campbell carded a 77 and 79.

Tuesday's rounds are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (EST).
