AIKEN, S.C. - Texas-Arlington's men's golf team rallied from an opening round 300 to shoot a 294 in Monday's afternoon round and sit in seventh place after the opening day of The Cleveland Golf Palmettto Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.
The Mavericks' two-round total of 594 trails leader South Florida who shot 11-over-par 579. Host South-Carolina-Aiken is one shot behind USF, Charleston Southern is third (581). Houston and East Carolina are fourth (585) and Lamar sixth (591).
Jordan Krantz and Jeff Murray are tied for 14 th place with a four-over-par 146. Krantz had a 72 in the afternoon and Murray opened the day with an even-par 71 over the 6,380 yard, par-71 layout.
Only five golfers shot better than par during Monday's play. South Florida's Federico Mautone had the days best round with a 69.
Other UTA golfers include: Marc Campbell at 150 after a 77 and 73, Tyrone Mordt at 152 following a 78 and 74 and Zack Reeves carded rounds of 78 and 76 for a 154.
Final round action is Tuesday.
