MAV GOLFERS FALL TO FOURTH AT LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Despite pristine weather conditions, the UTA men's golf team had a tough day at the office, shooting a season-high round of 303 to fall out of a first-place tie and into fourth place after the second day of the 2005 LSU Spring Invitational here Saturday.

UTA's two-day-total of 595 trails tournament host and leader LSU (592) by 13 strokes. Southland Conference member Lamar vaulted into second place with a three-over-par 291, five shots ahead of the Mavericks. Arkansas State is third with a two-day total of 591, four shots ahead of UTA.

LSU, looking for their fifth straight spring tournament title, was led by Beck Troutman's round of 69. His 36-hole score of 141 leads all individuals.

Junior Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) is tied for second place following a round of 74 for a 144. Jordan Krantz (Vermillion Bay, Canada) is tied for 18th following rounds of 71 and 78 (149).

The rest of the Mavericks include: Marc Campbell (76-74-150), Jeff Murray (75-77-152) and Bryan Baker (78-80-158).

The third and final day of the tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. on the University Club course.

The tournament is the final tune up before the Southland Confernece Championships April 25-27, at Kingwood, Texas.
