NORMAN, Okla. - NCAA Track & Field Midwest Regional Central
For 12 UTA student-athletes, the next step to the NCAA Track and Field Championships will begin in familiar territory as Oklahoma University hosts the third annual NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Friday and Saturday at the John Jacobs Track.
Action begins with the finals in the men's discus and men's high jump at noon on Friday. Another round of field event finals will begin at 3 p.m. with finals in the women's pole vault, women's hammer and men's javelin.
UTA will have to wait until the 4x100-meter relays compete at 4 p.m. The Mavericks have both its men's and women's qualifieds for the regional. Themen's team of Adam Stafford, Paul Whitty, Jaraed Connaughton and Glenn Taylor qualified with a time of 40.40 on the track at Norman during the John Jacobs Invitationl on April 16.
The women's relays has Kortnee Jones, Kim Hargers, Ellen Garrison, Shana Rash and Brittany Williams competing.
Stafford will compete in the 110-meter hurdles at 5 p.m. Freshman standout Quinchun Carey will try to be one of the top five athletes in the long jump to advance to the NCAA ata 6 p.m. The 400-meter hurdle prelims get underway at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, sophomore Tiffanie Reeves will compete in the shot put at 6 p.m.
