WIN STREAK ENDS AT SEVEN

Oct. 24, 2006

Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The UT Arlington volleyball team's seven-match win streak came to an end Tuesday evening as Texas State handing the Mavericks a 23-30, 22-30, 30-27, 24-30 loss at Strahan Coliseum.

UTA (19-7, 8-2 SLC) enjoyed its only lead of game one at 3-1 on back-to-back kills from Emily Nedderman and Teena Sobczak. The Bobcats would take over the game and open an eight-point advantage on a kill by Erin Hickman. The Mavs would get as close as six on a kill from Torie Dacus, but TXST quickly pushed the lead back to nine on a Kelly Fletcher kill. The Mavs had one final push as they faced match point, but it was too little, too late as Lawrencia Brown put away the game with a kill.

The two teams split the first 20 points of the second game before UTA scored four of the next five points to take a 14-11 lead. The Cats would use a 7-0 run of their own to take a lead they would never relinquish. UTA would get as close as two points on a Dani Johnson kill, but no closer as TXST took advantage of some sloppy play down the stretch from the Mavs.

The Bobcats (10-14, 6-4 SLC) looked to complete the sweep in game three and overcame an early deficit to take a 25-23 lead on an Amy Weigle kill. UTA battled back and took a one-point advantage on two straight kills from Dacus. After a TXST error, Dacus served up an ace and Murray and Nedderman ended the game with a stuff block.

The Mavs enjoyed their only lead of the deciding fourth game at 5-4 on a Dacus kill. TXST quickly tied the score and went on 11-6 run to take a five pint lead. The Bobcats would push the lead to 10 points before the Mavs made one final push to get within five points. TXST would score two of the final three points to end the match.

UTA was led by Dacus' 16 kills and 20 digs. She was joined in double figures by Sobczak's 13 kills and 17 digs. Amy Weigle led the Cats with 19 kills.

The Mavs return to the court on Oct. 27 as they host Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. at Texas Hall.
