MAVS WIN 58-54 OVER FLAMES IN CANCUN

CANCUN, Mexico - UT Arlington stopped its four game losing skid with a 58-54 win over Liberty University at the Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico on Tuesday. Senior Terra Wallace led all scorers with 26 points, hitting 10-16 from the floor.

Wallace tied the score 51-51 on a three-pointer with 2:08 left in the game, which sparked a 7-3 run by UTA to end the game with the win. The Mavs started the second half down by three (30-27), but battled back to knot up the score 38-38 with 11:21 on the clock. The Flames went on to grab the eight point lead (51-43) with 3:39 left to play on a 13-5 run.

In the first half both teams stayed within five of each other over the first ten minutes of action. With 5:09 left in the first half Liberty took an eight point advantage, 25-17 on a jumper by Rebecca Lightfoot. UTA then went on a 10-3 run to cut the Flames lead to one (28-27) with 1:48 left in the half. Liberty scored the final basket of the half to take the 30-27 lead into the locker room.

Michelle Parker led Liberty with 23 points and added the double double with ten boards. Molly Frazee added eight points for the Flames. Liberty moves to 6-4 on the season. Junior Tiffeny Riles led UTA on the boards with seven rebounds on the day.

The Mavs move to 4-6 on the season and will continue Caribbean Classic action tomorrow (12/20) against Bowling Green at 6 p.m. at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico.
