HOUSTON - Senior middle distance runner Ivorita Taylor (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) ran a season-best time of 2:13.76 to take second place in the women's 800 meters at the Houston Indoor Invitational at the Bill Yeoman Field House Saturday. Taylor was nipped at the tape by Texas' Dee Dee Cortez (2:13.00).
It was a strong day for the distance runners as sophomore Jodi Hulett (Arlington, Texas) shaved more than 16 seconds off her personal-best time in the 3,000 meters with a 10:03.77. The time is the fifth best 3,000 meter time in school history.
Junior Linda Rosema (Azle, Texas) set a new school-record in the weight throw with a toss of 16.29 meters (53-feet, 05.50 inches). The throw was 14 inches better than the old record (15.93m/52-03.25) she set at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Lubbock Jan. 21.
The Mavericks return to action Feb 17-18 at the Southland Conference Championships in Houston.
