PONTE VERDE BEACH, Fla. - The UTA men's golf team found rain and gusty winds too much to move up the leaderboard and finished in 13th place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship Tuesday.
UTA had a final day score of 315 and finished the three-day tournament 67-over-par 931. UCLA (896) won its fourth tournament of the year, holding off Texas Tech (901).
Alabama and South Carolina tied for third at 905. Georgia State (912), LSU (913), Florida (914), Tennessee (916), North Florida (920) and Auburn (926) round out the top 10.
Tech's Oscar Floren played the most consistent of the tournament, finishing one-over-par 217 for the medalist title.
UTA was led by senior Tyrone Mordt (Johannesburg, South Africa) who tied for 34th at 231. He shot a final day 78, going five-over-par on the final nine holes.
Sophomore Zack Reeves (Arlington, Texas) struggled - shooting a quadruple-bogey and two double bogeys and finished with an 85 after shooting 149 the first two days.
Senior Ryan Zamorano (Dallas, Texas) finished with a 778 on the final, junior Michael Douthit (Palestine, Texas) had a final round 79 and senior Jeff Murray (Odessa, Texas) finished 27-over-par with an 80 on Tuesday.
The Mavericks will return to Florida for the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-21, in Orlando, Fla.
