TAYLOR EARNS SLC'S TOP ACADEMIC HONOR

April 11, 2006

PLANO, Texas - UT Arlington's Ivorita Taylor and Texas-San Antonio's Bryan Wolfe have been selected the 2006 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Student-Athletes of the Year by the league's awards committee, Southland officials announced today.

The awards are presented to the top student-athlete in each conference-sponsored sport. The winner of the student-athlete of the year award must have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average to meet the minimum academic requirement. Athletic standards include superior achievement, having brought significant recognition to the institution and having competed in at least two seasons.

Taylor, a senior from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, earned first-team All-SLC this year after winning the 800-meter run. She posted a time of 2:14.13 to finish 3.73 seconds ahead of the second-place competitor. Taylor helped the Lady Mavs to a sixth-place showing at the 2006 championship. It is Taylor's second straight 800 title as she won the event at the 2005 outdoor meet.

Taylor is now an eight-time All-SLC performer. Included was a third-place finish at the SLC Cross Country Championship last fall.

An accounting major, Taylor has accumulated a 3.96 GPA at UTA. Taylor adds this award for indoor track to her Student-Athlete of the Year awards earned after the 2005 outdoor track season and the 2005 cross country season last November.

Taylor has also been voted "Super Scholar Athlete" every year at UTA with a 3.0 GPA or higher. In 2005, she was named the BG Wilson Female Scholar Athlete of the Year at her school. In addition, Taylor has been place on the Hibernia Bank/SLC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll twice.
