ARLINGTON, Texas - UT-Arlington sophomore guard Maryann Abanobi was named the 2006 Hibernia Bank Southland Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday. Abanobi is a member of the six-person first team after sporting a 3.57 GPA in bio-chemistry.

The Sugar Land, Texas native has maintained a 3.0 grade point average in each semester at UTA and was the recipient of the UTA Freshman Chemistry Student Athlete of the Year award in 2005.
