UT Arlington will face seven teams who competed in the postseason a year ago. The Mavericks return four starters and nine letterwinners from a 20-9 squad that finished in second place in the Southland Conference during the regular season.
"You look at our schedule and I think it ranks up there with one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation," said UT Arlington Head Women's Basketball Coach Donna Capps. "We are excited to bring quality teams like Northern Arizona and Pepperdine to Texas Hall. Our road schedule is unbelievably tough and everyone is excited about a trip to Cancun to face some of the best teams in women's college basketball."
UT Arlington opens the season at Texas Hall against Northern Arizona on November 11. The Lumberjacks (21-11) won the Big Sky Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament before losing to Baylor in the opening round, 74-56. A November 17 game against Arkansas Little Rock and a December 1 game versus Pepperdine round out the non-conference home schedule. The Waves (14-17 in 2006) made the NCAA Tournament after winning the West Coast Conference Postseason Tournament before losing to Big 12-Champion Oklahoma in the opening round.
The November road schedule includes a trip to Michigan State on November 19, the Montana State Tournament Nov. 24-25. The field includes the host Bobcats, Cal State-Fullerton, North Dakota State and UT Arlington.
The December road schedule features games at SMU on Dec. 2, Texas Tech on Dec. 6 and TCU on Dec. 1 before playing in the Cancun Tournament Dec. 19-20 and the Tulane Tournament in New Orleans on Dec. 29-30.
The Cancun Caribbean Classic will field four teams with postseason play a year ago -- Bowling Green, Duke, Liberty and Pittsburgh. Detroit, East Carolina, SMU and UT Arlington round out the field. The Mavericks will face Bowling Green and Liberty. Bowling Green went 28-3 a year ago while Liberty earned an NCAA Tournament berth with a 24-6 record.
The Tulane Tournament will have Tulane, Fordham and WNIT participant Mississippi in the four-team bracket. The Mavericks will face the Rebels in the opening round of the two-day event on Dec. 29.
The 12-member league adds UCA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this season while Louisiana-Monroe vacates for the Sun Belt Conference. The Mavericks travel to Conway, Ark., to open SLC play on Jan. 4 and meet TAMU-CC in Corpus Christi on Jan. 20 and at Texas Hall on Feb. 17.
Key conference games include: Texas-San Antonio on Jan. 18, and Stephen F. Austin Jan. 27, both at Texas Hall. UT Arlington travels to UTSA on Feb. 15 and to Stephen F. Austin Feb. 24.
