ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball won its fourth straight conference game Saturday, 51-43 over Southeastern Louisiana. Senior Terra Wallace led the Mavs for the second straight game with 16 points. Junior Maryann Abanobi added 13 points in the win.
The Lions (10-7, 2-2) were led by Tina Wilson with 15 points and Jazmin Cain with 11 rebounds. Senior Ashley Bobb led all players on the glass with 13 rebounds on the day. The Mavs improve to 9-8 on the season and 4-0 in SLC play.
Southeastern Louisiana jumped out to the 8-4 lead at the 15:24 mark off two tres from Wilson. With a steal and lay-up Wallace tied the score 8-8 with 13:37 left in the first half. Over the next five minutes the Lions outscored the Mavs 6-5 for the one point advantage (14-13).
Freshman LaTosha Duffey gave UTA the one-point advantage (15-14) on a fast break with 6:53 left in the half. Over the next two and a half minutes SLU went on a 5-2 run for the two-point advantage. Senior Tojjinay Thompson knotted the score 19-19 at the 2:59 mark. Wallace hit a long jumper with 27 second left to give the Mavs the 22-21 advantage heading into the locker room.
Six minutes into the second half freshman Meghan Nelson put UTA ahead 27-25. Thompson hit a 2-2 from the line at the 10:46 mark to give the Mavs the 32-27 advantage. Back-to-back buckets from Abanobi and a jumper from Bobb put UTA up 42-33 with 7:03 left to play.
The Mavs took a ten-point (43-33) lead on a Wallace free-throw with 4:47 on the clock. In the last three and half minutes of the game UTA hit 6-6 from the charity stripe to seal the win 51-43.
The Mavs return to action as they play host to UT San Antonio at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The first 250 fans will receive free t-shirts sponsored by Sam's Club and $1 drinks will be sold.
