Box Score

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Antuane Miller and Matt Kingsley combined to score 29 points to lead the Lumberjacks to a 65-54 win over UT Arlington in Southland Conference men's basketball play at William Johnson Coliseum Saturday night.

SFA ( 13-6, 6-1) won for the eighth time in nine games and stayed within a half-game of West Division leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. UT Arlington fell to 6-14 overall and 2-6 in the SLC.

UT Arlington mounted a furious rally in the second half, using a 10-2 run to cut a 54-42 deficit to 56-52 after a Ro'ger Guignard 3-pointer with 1:37 left in the game.

But SFA was able to withstand the charge, making 5-of-7 free throws in the final 1:10 for the win.

It was a night when the UT Arlington got a dose of the inside game they have delivered to opponents all season long. Stephen F. Austin got 34 points in the paint thanks in part to 17 points from reserve center Miller and 12 from Kingsley.

The Lumberjacks outrebounded UTA, 34-22.

Guignard and junior center Jermaine Griffin scored 10 points each. Junior guard Rodrick Epps added nine and Anthony Vereen scored eight points for UTA.

SFA (13-6, 6-1) never trailed in the game. The 'Jacks jumped out to a 9-2 lead before the first media time-out and built a 10-point lead, 12-2, of a Gerald Fonzie 3-pointer with 14:29 left in the first half.

UT Arlington was held to a season low 17 first-half points on just six field goals.

From there, SFA used a stingy defense and crisp offense. UT Arlington tried to cut into the SFA lead, but the 'Jacks would come up with a basket to counter the Mavs.

Baskets by Vereen and Posey to open the second half cut the lead to 31-21 with 18:57 left in the game. But Josh Alexander answered with a jumper to kick the lead back over 10, 33-21. An Epps 3-pointer got the Mavs within nine, 33-24, but Kingsley scored in the paint to stretch the lead back to double digits, 35-24, with 17:02 to play.

MAV NOTES: The Mavs committed a season low 12 turnovers for the game... UTA falls to 2-11 in road games this season.
