The UT Arlington men's golf team carded their best round of the tournament - a one-under-par 287 - in third round to finish ninth at the 2007 Louisiana Tech/Squire Creek Intercollegiate Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
The Mavericks completed their second round play Tuesday morning with a season-high 300 before gathering themselves to finish with a 287 in the afternoon.
Mississippi (860) led from the start and finished with a two stroke win over LSU (862). Host Louisiana Tech (863), Jacksonville State (864) and Louisiana-Lafayette (865) completed the top five. Arkansas State (867), Middle Tennessee State (875), College of Charleston (881), UT Arlington (882) and New Orleans (883) rounded out the top 10.

Sophomore Michael van de Venter fired a 72 and 71 on Tuesday to finish with a 54-hole total 218 and tied for 19th place. Sophomores Bobby Massa and Bryce Easton finished tied for 45th with a 223. Massa had a one-par 71 during the final round while Easton, ranked 151st by golfweek.com, carded a 73 after a morning round of 79.
Senior Zack Reeves had rounds of 73, 77 and 75 to finished at 225. Kevin Varrichio rebounded after an opening day 80 with rounds of 75 and 72.
Zack Fischer, playing as a medalist, finished tied for 73rd with a 229 after a 78 and 77 on Tuesday.
UT Arlington will compete at herb Wimberley Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 29-30.
