FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The UT Arlington Men's Cross Country Team showed their depth with five runners finishing in the top 75 for 269 total points and an 11th-place finish at the 2007 NCAA South Central Region Cross Country Championships here Saturday morning.

Idilio Campos was the top Maverick with a 40th-place finish with a time of 31-minutes, 41.1-seconds over the 10,000-meter course. Ivan Pinal just beat teammate Jody Broccoli-Hickey at the wire with a time of 32:32.5 while Hickey came in a 62nd with a 32:35.4. Sophomore Ozie Hood was 65th with a 32:40.5 and freshman Jose Balleza took 75th with a 33:13.1.

Freshman Zack Zura was 88th with a 33:57.7 and Garrett Yuen finished 93rd with a 34:43.3.

"I thought our young team competed well and we will use this as a springboard into the spring and next season," said UT Arlington Head Cross Country Coach John Sauerhage. "We did not have Armando Saldivar running and that hurt us as a team. Overall, I thought we ran hard and that's all I can ask."

Arkansas won the team title with 37 points. Texas was second with 52 and Texas A&M finished third with 101. Lamar was the top SLC school with a fourth-place finish with 122 points followed by LSU (188), Baylor (193), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (200), Rice (201), Arkansas-Little Rock (239) and North Texas (262) to round out the top 10.

Individually, SLC runners Shadrack Songok of A&M-Corpus Christi and Francis Kasagule of Lamar were 1-2 with a 29:16.3 and 29:23.4.

"I think today showed the Southland is every bit as a good as the Big 12 schools and when you add the Sun Belt schools, making top 10 in the region is difficult and we found that out today," said Sauerhage.

In the women's division, freshman Annabelle Everitt was 63rd over the 6,000-meter course with a 23:00.8.
