HOUSTON, Texas - UT Arlington softball dropped back-to-back games in Houston at the Wilson DeMarini Invitational. The Mavs lost their first game of the day, 7-4, to No.11 Michigan before falling 9-1 in five innings to Mississippi.
In game one Michigan got on the board first with three runs in the first and then added two more in the third. UTA cut the Wolverine's lead to two with three runs in the bottom of the third. Dee Jay Nelson hit a home run to score Katie Jones and Courtni Anderson.
Michigan added runs in the fifth and seventh to lead 7-3. UTA's Heather Fortenberry tried to get the Mav's back in the game with solo home run in the seventh, but the effort fell short.
Mississippi scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to hand UTA its second game of the day. The Rebels started the game with a single run in the first, which the Mavs answered in the top of the third. Jones drove in Amanda Swofford for the 1-1 tie. The Rebels scored three in the bottom of the third to lead 4-1, before ending the game early with five runs in the fifth.
UTA will look for revenge when it faces off with Mississippi in its final game of the Wilson DeMarini Invitational at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
