OREM, Utah – The UT Arlington softball team fell in game one, 6-9, to Utah Valley on Friday afternoon at Wolverine Softball Field in Orem, Utah.
The Mavericks now move to a 15-18 overall record and a 4-3 record in WAC play.
At the plate, UTA was led by junior
Peyton Holland, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run scored.
Mia McNulty went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a home run, while
Kelsey Creech also went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a home run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UTA struck first in the top of the first inning, as McNulty launched a two-run home run to give the Mavericks an early 2-0 early lead.
Utah Valley responded in the bottom half of the inning when Bailey Marvin reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Britney Moreno to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Wolverines took control in the third inning. Tatum Hall delivered a three-RBI double to left center, putting UVU ahead 4-2. Later in the inning, Angelique Mann added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead, 5-2. Mya Higareda followed with a single to right, and Emma Haywood came around to score on a throwing error, making it 6-2.
UTA answered in the top of the fourth as Holland doubled off the wall to left center. Creech followed with a two-run home run to center, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
Utah Valley added insurance in the bottom of the fourth, plating two runs on a single to center field by Marvin to extend its lead to 8-4.
After a scoring halt, UVU broke through again in the bottom of the sixth as Hall singled to right field for an RBI, plating Moreno and adding an insurance run to make it 9-4.
In the top of the seventh, Holland homered deep to left field for 2 RBI, making the score 6-9 but the Mavericks couldn't come back after that, giving game one to the Wolverines, 9-6.
