NACOGDOCHES, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball won 58-41 over Stephen F. Austin in Southland Conference action Saturday. The win improves the Mavs overall record to 20-8 while pushing its conference win streak to 15. Junior Maryann Abanobi led all players with 16 points hitting 2-of-3 from beyond the arch and 4-of-4 from the line.
Senior Terra Wallace and freshman Meghan Nelson added 15 and 10 points respectively while senior Ashley Bobb led the Mavs on the glass with ten rebounds. Charity Egenti led the Ladyjacks (18-9, 10-4) with 13 points recording the double double with 10 boards on the night.
Wallace hit a three at with 18:23 left in the first half to give UTA the early 5-0 lead. Nelson pushed the Mavs lead to seven (12-5) with a lay-up at the 15:40 mark. Two minutes later Nelson hit a tre to extend UTA's lead to ten (17-7).
Over the next six minutes SFA went on a 10-0 run capper with a lay-up from Egenti to tie the score 17-17. UTA pushed its lead back to six (23-17) with 3:28 left in the half, but the Ladyjacks put together a 10-4 run to knot the score 27-27 at the half.
Abanobi hit back-to-back threes to extend UTA's lead back to ten with six and a half minutes into the second half. Over the next two minutes, Wallace hit a free throw and a tre to give the Mavs their larges lead of the game at 14 (45-31).
A lay-up from sophomore Candice Champion gave UTA the 15-point (51-36) advantage at the 8:06 mark. Egenti cut the Mavs lead to 12 (53-41) on a jumper with 3:23 left on the clock. Down the stretch Abanobi and Champion combined to hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and secure UTA the 58-41 win.
The Mavs will close out the regular season on Friday (3/2) against Texas State. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos, Texas.
