HOUSTON, Texas - Redshirt freshman Stacey Bennett (Kingsville, Texas) turned in the seventh best high jump mark in school history with a leap of 5-feet, 7.75-inches for third place at the Houston Invitational at the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus here Saturday.
The meet was the final tune up before the Southland Conference Indoor Track Championships, Feb, 16-17, also at the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Bennett's mark is the second best in the Southland Conference this indoor season, just one-quarter-inch shy of the league's best mark.
Freshman Jasmine Walls (Houston, Texas) clocked the fastest 60-meter time by a Mav this season with a time of 7.83 seconds.
Senior Kourtnee Jones (Abilene, Texas) clocked the second best time in the conference this season with a 25.04 in the 200 meters for fifth place.
Freshman Antonia Hopkins (Lubbock, Texas) clocked a 58.23 for seventh place in the 400 meters
Latasha Watson placed seventh in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 18-05.00. The Rowlett native improved her previous indoor best of 17-0.50 during the 2006 indoor season.
Junior Carranda Mose (Pearland, Texas), who finished second at the 2006 SLC Indoors, timed a season-best 2:17.21 for sixth place. The time is the second best in the SLC this season behind teammate Ida Landgraff's 2:12.
The SLC's defending pole vaulter champion, Lacey Moore (Great Bend, Kan.), vaulted a season-best 3.50 meters (11-05.75) for sixth place.
Junior Jodi Hulett (Arlington, Texas) shaved 1:23 off her time this season for a personal best 10:03.45 for fifth place.
