AUSTIN, Texas - UT Arlington women's 4x200-mewter relay team of Kim Hargers, Kourtnee Jones, Jasmine Walls and Shana Rash clocked a time of 1-minute, 39.53-seconds to win the Mavs first relay team since 1998 at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the Mike A. Meyers Track Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The foursome endured near freezing temperatures and light snow to win the relay, the first victory by a Maverick since Rebecca Johansson won the women's 10,000 meters in 2002.
"It was a great meet for us," said UT Arlington Head Track and Field Coach John Sauerhage. "We showed some mental toughness today and I think we built more confidence from this."
The men's 4x100-meter relay finished took second place with a time of 40.75, .18 seconds behind SEC power LSU.
Senior Jon McDowell placed third with a time of 14.24 seconds and senior Coby Morrison finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 54.00.
Late Friday, the women's 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team of Walls, Jones, Chamberlain Garber and Ivorita Taylor won their heat and finished fifth overall with a time of 3:56.94.
