AUSTIN, Texas - - UT Arlington men's golf signees Jamey Taylor and Zack Fischer posted top-10 finishes at the UIL Class 4A State Tournament concluded Tuesday.
Taylor, competing as an individual after winning the Region I Tournament two weeks ago, shot a two-under-par 69 to finish in a tie for third place, two strokes behind champion Adam Wennerstrom of Austin Lake Travis who won state with a 36-hole total of 137 (69-68).
Aledo won the state team title with a 564. Fischer's Texarkana Texas High team finished fifth with a 592.
Taylor is a four-time first-team all District 18-4A and region qualifier at Friendswood High School. He has captained the FHS team for the past three seasons and was named the team's player of the year in 2005-07. He finished second at the District 18-4A Tournament (73-70-143) to advance to the Region I Tournament. He was named first team all-Houston Golf Association in 2004-06, a 2006 HGA Junior Classic champion, 2006 Greater Houston City Junior Championship runner up, and fifth place at the 2006 Texas Legends Junior Texas State Championship.
Fischer, a senior at Texarkana Texas High School shot a final round of one-over-par 72 for a two-day total of 141 on the 6,749-yard, par-71 layout on the Roy Kiser Municipal Golf Course.
Fischer, ranks among the top 10 junior golfers in Texas, led the Texarkana Texas High School boys golf team to the Region II-4A Team title with a 71 to finish tied for third at the rain-shortened region tournament. He won the District 11-4A tournament with a 147.
The Mavs open the 2007-08 season at the St. Mary's Invitational, Sept. 10-11 in St. Mary's, Calif.
