The UT Arlington men's golf team fired a final round of two-over-par 286 to claim a share of the inaugural Texas Cup here Tuesday afternoon.
The 36-hole total of 582 tied New Orleans for the team title. Texas (591), the College of Charleston (598), Texas State (603), Texas-Pan American (605), Western Illinois (605), Stephen F. Austin (608), Northern Iowa (613), Towson (635) and Texas Southern (669) rounded the 11-team field.
The team title was the first for UT Arlington since claiming the 2005 Southland Conference Golf Championship on April 26-27, 2005. It was the 21st team championship in program history.
Individually, sophomore Bryce Easton (75-68-143) tied for third with a season-low round of 68 Tuesday. His third-place finish was the highest finish in his career and his second career top-10 finish.
Michael van de Venter also recorded his second top-10 performance of his career with rounds of 73 and 71 for a 144 for seventh. Sophomore Bobby Massa improved on Tuesday with a one-over-par 72 to finish in a tie for 11th place at 147.
Senior Zack Reeves carded a 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 13th at 148 and freshman Zack Fischer finished tied for 38th after an 80 on Tuesday for a two-round total of 155.
Senior Buddy Wilkins was the top medalist in the field, tying for eighth with a three-over-par 145 after rounds of 73 and 72.
New Orleans' Ken Looper birdied the final two holes to finish with a 68 and win the individual title with a 139 (71-68).
UT Arlington will host the UT Arlington Fall Classic, Oct, 1-2, at Waterchase Golf Club.
