MAVERICK GOLF TEAM CLIMBS THREE SPOTS IN NCAA CENTRAL STANDINGS

May 16, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - The UT Arlington golf team shot a 14-over-par 298 in Friday's second round of the NCAA Central Regional Tournament, climbing three spots to a tie for 20th place. The top 10 teams advance to the national tournament. UTA is nine strokes behind 10th.

UTA's score at The Ohio State University Scarlet Course was ninth-best in the 27-team field, but not enough to overcome the Mavericks struggles from the first day. Overall, UTA has a 38-over-par 308-298=606, tied with Georgia Tech and two strokes ahead of Arkansas.

The Mavericks second-day charge was led by Bobby Massa, who fired a 1-under-par 70 on Friday. Massa had three birdies on the back nine to card the splendid final score. His total heading into the third and final day Saturday is 10-over-par 152.

Kevin Carrigan's 75-75=150 places him in a tie for 38th in the overall standings while Michael van de Venter has a 75-76=151.
