ARLINGTON, Texas - - UT Arlington golfers have been polishing their games this summer in preparation for the upcoming fall season, but in the process, they have been posting some pretty impressive scores and winning tournaments.
Zack Fischer, a freshman last season for the Mavericks, turned in a 66-69=135 for first place at the United States Amateur Public Linx Qualifier on Sunday and Monday in Pine Bluff, Ark. That score qualifies him for the Public Linx Tournament scheduled July 14-19 in Aurora, Colo. Also turning in a solid tournament recently was junior-to-be Bryce Easton, who captured the tournament title at the Collegiate Player's Tournament in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County National Golf Course. Easton's score of 75-63-65=203 not only won the tournament held June 2-4, his margin of victory of nine strokes was a tournament record.
Michael Van deVenter, a sophomore on UTA's squad last season, won the Lowveld Open from June 7-8 with a score of 71-68=139. That tournament was held at Nelspruit Golf Course in Lowveld, South Africa.
Senior-to-be Kevin Carrigan won the Canadian Tour Qualifier held June 18 in Vancouver, British Columbia, with a round of 69.
Three UTA golfers - Trey Herring, Jamey Taylor and Bobby Massa, have qualified for the 38th Texas State Open scheduled July 17-21 at The Cascades in Tyler, Texas.
