ARLINGTON, Texas - Former UT Arlington pitcher Steve Foster is switching leagues and joining two other UTA baseball alums as he was named bullpen coach for the Kansas City Royals. Foster, who spent the previous three seasons as the Florida Marlins bullpen coach, pitched for the Cincinnati Reds from 1991-93 as a right-handed reliever and was the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year for UTA in 1988.
Former Mavs Trey Hillman (1982-85) and Dave Owen (1977-79) are manager and third base coach, respectively, for the Royals and each will enter their third season with the club in 2010.
Forster's Major League pitching career included pitching in 59 games and recording a 3-3 record with a 2.41 ERA before arm injuries cut his career short.
Foster worked with the Marlins bullpen this past season as the Fish tallied the ninth best bullpen ERA (3.83) in the big leagues.
He has also worked as pitching coach for Class-A Greensboro and was a scout for the Tampa Bay Rays.
