ARLINGTON, Tx. - UT Arlington head men's basketball coach Scott Cross announced today the program has signed forward Kerry Jones (Tyler, Tex./Robert E. Lee HS) to a national letter of intent to begin playing for the Mavericks in the fall of 2009.
Jones will join 6-10 forward Jordan Reeves, who signed with UTA last November, in the 2009 recruiting class.
The 6-6, 225 pound forward averaged 19 points and 11 rebounds per game his senior year at Lee and was a first team all-district selection.
"We are extremely excited about adding Kerry to our program," Cross said. "He is a guy that can do a lot of different things on the basketball court. He has the abiltiy to score with his back to the basket, which is something we desperately need for the upcoming year. We have visions of him one day developing into the type of scorer that Anthony Vereen was for us."
Ranked among the top 35 players in the state by Texas Hoops, registered a double-double in nearly every game during his senior season including an 18-point, 18-rebound effort against John Tyler.
He was selected to the East-West Texas all-star game which will be played this weekend.
Jones chose the Mavericks over Utah, Louisiana Tech and San Diego among others.
