SAN MARCOS, Tex. - Alicia Shaffer led UT Arlington with 12 digs, but a red-hot Texas State team avenged its loss to the Mavs earlier this month by beating them 3-0 Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum.
UTA struggled offensively in the match, finishing with a .000 hitting percentage. The Bobcats, meanwhile, hit .326 while storming to a 25-17, 25-9, 25-18 win.
"We were just horrible tonight," UTA coach Diane Seymour said. "Hats off to Texas State. It's just one of those bad situations where you walk into your opponent's arena and everything they do is perfect. We were just awful on the other side, so there was no way to slow it down a little bit. It was a little bit of bad luck that we caught Texas State when they were on fire and UTA was not.
Texas State (14-9, 7-2) jumped on the visitors early by scoring the first seven points of the match and never looked back. The Bobcats also dashed out to a 13-2 lead in Game 2 and never trailed in the match.
The two teams end their regular-season series with a split record because UT Arlington beat Texas State 3-2 at Texas Hall earlier this year.
Bianca Sauls was one of the team's lone bright spots, earning five kills while committing just one error.
"I thought Alicia and Bianca played well tonight for us," Seymour said.
Amanda Aguilera finished tied for the team high with five kills, but watched her streak of double-digit kill matches end at nine and her double-double streak end at five matches. Aguilera also had three aces.
Raegan Daniel had 16 assists.
The loss marks the fourth consecutive for the Mavericks (9-14, 3-6) since they knocked off the Bobcats two weeks ago.
Now the Mavs must regroup in time for Saturday's road match against Northwestern State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
