Final Stats

Arlington, Tex. - An early barrage of 3-point field goals helped UT Arlington to an easy 96-56 victory over UT Tyler Tuesday.

The Mavericks (2-1) took control of the game early as they jumped out to a 20-point lead midway through the first half. UTA finished the half making 9-of-17 3-pointers and led 50-24 at the break over the Patriots (0-1).

"Our offense really clicked tonight," UTA head coach Scott Cross said. "We moved the basketball and took advantage of our opportunities. When we do that we can cut down our turnovers like we did tonight."

The Mavericks came into the game averaging 23 miscues a game but tonight they had just 13.

"We did a better job of cutting down on our turnovers tonight," Cross said. "But when we move the basketball like we did tonight then we can cut down on that."

UTA also had 20 assists on their 32 field goals - a statistic that pleased the head coach. "We really shared the ball tonight," Cross said. "That is how I envisioned the offense to work."

UTA kept the pressure on in the first half and increased their lead steadily in the second half as they won their second 40-plus point decision on the year.

UTA finished the game making 14-of-30 from 3-point range and went 18-of-19 from the line. Overall the Mavericks shot 51.6% while holding UT Tyler to just 33.3% from the field.

Freshman Darius Richardson led UTA with 18 points while LaMarcus Reed added 17 to pace four Mavericks in double figures.

"LaMarcus has been consistent all season and it was good to see Darius play well," Cross said. "He had his shot going tonight and when he does that, it is something special to watch."

Brandon Edwards led the Mavericks with 10 rebounds, his second double figure rebound game of the young season.

"Brandon did a great job rebounding," Cross said. "He struggled the other day at Oregon State but he was active tonight and when he does that he can get to 10 or more boards."

Kevin Murray led UT Tyler (0-1) with 10 points.

UT Arlington's next game is Saturday at Houston Baptist.
