UTA Game Notes vs. UT Tyler 
A LOOK AT THE MAVERICKS UT Arlington plays its 3rd game in 5 days tonight as they host UT Tyler at Texas Hall...the Mavericks come into the game 1-1 after a 71-56 loss at Oregon State Sunday...the is the middle game of a busy start to the season for UTA as they will play 5 games in the first 11 days of the season.

UTA-UT TYLER SERIES Tonight's game is the fifth all-time meeting between the schools...the Mavericks hold a 4-0 series advantage every game coming at Texas Hall...UTA won 99-67 in the last meeting on 11.25.08.
MAVERICKS HEAD COACH Scott Cross Scott Cross is in his 5th season as the head coach at UT Arlington...he has a career coaching record of 67-58 (.536)...Cross has a 2-0 career record vs. UT Tyler...he has a career SLC regular season record of 32-32 and 3-3 in the conference tournament...Cross led the Mavericks to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2008 after winning the Southland Conference Tournament...in 2008 he led his team to a school-record 21 victories and his team completed a school record 17-game home winning streak (3 games in `07 and the first 14 of `08)...Cross reached 50 wins faster than any coach in school history (90th game)...a 1998 graduate of UT Arlington, Cross was a 2-time Academic All-American at his alma mater where he lettered 3 times from 1995-98.
LOOKING TO KEEP WINNING SEASON STREAK ALIVE The Mavericks, and head coach Scott Cross, enter the 2010-11 season having posted 3 consecutive winning seasons...this is the first time since the 1991 (20-9), `92 (16-13) and `93 (16-12) seasons the Mavs have accomplished this...the only other time this has happened in school history was 1980-82 when UTA went 14-13, 20-8 and 16-12...UTA has never had 4 consecutive winning seasons...the 53 wins the Mavericks have posted during this stretch are the most in a 3-year span for the program that started in 1959-60.
MAVS NEW HOME - COLLEGE PARK CENTER - TAKING SHAPE After years of waiting, the University of Texas at Arlington officially broke ground on its new $78 million College Park Center last March...the arena will seat 6,600 for basketball and volleyball and should be completed in late 2011. YOUNG GUNS The Mavericks enter this season as one of the least experienced teams in the nation as UTA has just 5 years of Division I experience heading into the season (LaMarcus Reed - 2, Cameron Catlett, Jordan Reeves and Armani Williams each with one)...that total is tied for the 2nd-fewest in the nation with Sacramento State and is just behind Eastern Washington who just has 4 years of experience.
A LITTLE AFTER A LOT OF CHARITY After shooting 46 free throws against TLU, the Mavericks were just 7-11 from the foul line at Oregon State...the Mavericks were 35-of-46 vs. TLU...the 35 foul shots made tied for the sixth-highest total in school history while the 46 attempts tied for the eighth-most.
THE PASSING GAME The Mavericks have registered more assists than their opponents in their first 2 games with Shaquille White-Miller leading the way with 6.5 pg...however UTA has turned the ball over an average of 23 times in first 2 games...they had a season-high 24 at Oregon State which led to 30 OSU points.
FROM THE FIELD UTA has gotten off to a good start from the field this season, shooting 47.9% in the first 2 games...they shot 53.8% (14-26) in the first half at OSU but that was followed by a 7-17 (41.2%) effort in the 2nd half as the Mavs scored only 21 points...included in that total was a 60% (6-10) first half effort in shooting 3's.
LAST GAME - OREGON STATE 71, UTA 56 - Nov. 14, 2010 Omari Johnson scored 15 points and Ahmad Starks added 14 in his collegiate debut to help Oregon State to a 71-56 victory over Texas-Arlington on Sunday. Lathen Wallace had 12 points for the Beavers in their season opener. LaMarcus Reed had 15 points and a team-high six rebounds and Jordan Reves added 12 points for the Mavericks (1-1). After ending the first half on a 7-2 run to take a 37-35 lead, Oregon State scored the first six points of the second half. UT-Arlington got no closer than four the rest of the game, and the Beavers led by as many as 16. UT-Arlington committed 24 turnovers while Oregon State had just 11.
HOME AT THE HALL UTA is 35-10 at home over the last 3+ seasons, which includes an 11-5 mark last season...UTA has posted 16 consecutive non-losing seasons at home (14 winning, 2 .500)...the last time UTA had a losing record at home was 1993-94 (5-7).
FINAL FOUR COMING TO MAVERICKS HOMETOWN The NCAA announced on Nov. 19, 2008 the 2014 Men's Final Four will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington...the stadium, which is about a mile from UTA's campus and is the host of Super Bowl XLV in February...the Dallas/Ft. Worth area last hosted the Final Four in 1986 at Reunion Arena.
KEYS TO THE GAME Last season when UTA scored 70 or more points they were 16-2 with the only losses being the 101-99 double overtime game vs. North Texas and the 82-79 defeat at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the final regular season game...this season that has proven true in the early going as in the win they scored 88 and in the loss 56.

#5 Stuart Lagerson: Did not score at OSU in 5 minutes...did not vs. TLU but did have 4 rebounds in 11 minutes...helped lead his team to a 33-7 record as a senior as his team finished ranked 15th in the state...at 7-0 was the tallest player in Judson High history...averaged 4.4 points per game and shot 52% from the field... averaged 4.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game...his 125 blocks were more than half of the team's total of 245...
#31 LaMarcus Reed: 15 points, team-high tying 6 rebounds in 26 minutes at OSU...15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in 25 minutes vs. TLU...UT Arlington's leading returning scorer (8.1) and rebounder (3.5)...scored in double figures 8 times and at least 9 points 11 times last year...in 2008-09 he appeared in 28 games playing 266 minutes but averaged 15.5 mpg in his last 12 games played...finished the season averaging, 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game overall but in the last 12 games he played averaged 7.4 ppg and 3.7 rpg...career-high 16 points vs. UCA.

#2 Darius Richardson: 8 points, 4 rebounds in 26 minutes at OSU...10 points in 24 minutes in start in first collegiate game Friday vs. TLU...led Fort Bend Bush to the Class 5A state championship in 2010...first-team all-state selection in 2010...named the Most Valuable Player of the state championship game as he scored 25 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Broncos to a 65-58 over Garland Lakeview Centennial...named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game in the summer of 2010...

#12 Shaquille White-Miller: Lead team in assists in each game...had 7 along with 2 points in 27 minutes at OSU...team-high 6 assists along with 3 points and 2 rebounds in 22 minutes vs. TLU...a two-time All-District 21-5A performer at Port Arthur Memorial...averaged 12 points and 9 assists per game as a senior...named the District 21-5A's Most Valuable Player following his junior season...cousin of Jamaal Charles who is a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs and played at Texas.
#20 Armani Williams: Has yet to play this season...appeared in 28 games as a freshman in 2009-10...finished season averaging 5.8 points per game...shot 35% from 3-point range (40-114) which was second on the team...114 of his 153 field goal attempts were from 3-point range...career-highs of 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and 28 minutes vs. UT Dallas early in the season...followed that game with a 16-point performance vs. Utah Valley...conference season-high 12 points at UCA.
