Seniors Tamara Simmons and Shalyn Martin led the Mavericks to their first win at home against Southeast Missouri, 54-40 Saturday. The win improved the Mavs to 2-4 overall while the RedHawks fell to 2-4 on the year.

After their Wednesday overtime loss to Arkansas State (Nov. 24), the Mavericks regrouped and had everything working for them against SEMO. UT Arlington won the battle on the boards with a 48-35 margin, limited their turnovers to a season-low 15 and connected on 18-of-24 of their free throws.

Three Mavs finished in double-digits, including Martin who recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double performance was her 17th of her career.

After one tie (2-2) at the 15:45 mark, UT Arlington controlled the rest leading by as many as 10 with 5:24 left in the first half. The Mavs aggressiveness in the half led to 10 points in the paint and 11 points coming from the free throw.

Simmons and Martin led the way at the charity stripe combining for a perfect 10-of-10.

UTA headed into the locker rooms with a comfortable 11 point advantage and finished shooting 29.6 from the field.

The Mavs maintained their lead in the second half due to the limited turnovers and points off the bench. Freshman Malaika Green stepped up, scoring a season-high eight points while Desherra Nwanguma added four.

UT Arlington shut down SEMO the rest of the way jumping out to their largest lead of the game of 15 points (49-34) with 5:13 remaining.

Simmons finished with 11 points and four assists while Jasmine Smith nearly missed out on a double-double performance of her own, registering 10 points and eight rebounds.

UTA finished the game shooting 32 percent (16-of-50) from the field, 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from behind the arc and 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free throw line.

The Mavericks four-game home stand continues Wednesday, Dec. 1 when UTA takes on SEC opponent Arkansas at 7 p.m.
