Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington senior forward Tamara Simmons was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week by vote of the league's sports information directors the conference announced Monday.

Simmons, a native of Arlington, Texas, was named to the Las Vegas Holiday All-Tournament team after averaging 16 points in two games with a 35.6 field goal percentage. Against California, Simmons scored 17 points and followed that performance with 15 points against Big East opponent Pittsburgh.

Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
