2010 Bobby Lane Invitational Photo Gallery
ARLINGTON, Texas - With the whole crowd at Maverick Stadium on its feet, Cordero Gray didn't disappoint.
The junior All-American dazzled at the Bobby Lane Invitational, finishing first among collegiate runners and second overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.42. Doc Patton, an Olympic medal winner, was first in the race running for Nike.
Senior All-American Jasmine Walls didn't fare as well as Gray in her own 100 meter dash, but still finished ninth with a time of 11.97. Walls teammate Shannon Reynolds finished right behind Walls in tenth with a time of 12.01.
Gray and Walls also led their respective 4x100 meter relay to third place finishes. Gray ran with Juan Lewis, Aundrea Williams and Andrew Pettis. The group finished with a time of 40.31.
Walls' running mates were DeAndrea Smith, Shannon Reynolds and Antonia Hopkins. They finished with a time of 45.98. Walls also placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.97.
The most dominated event for UTA however came for neither Gray or Walls. The Mavericks finished the women 800 meter run with five of the top right finishes, including the top three.
Kisha Gaspard won the event with a time of 2:17. Esther Abuto (2:18) and Jennifer Carey (2:19.00) finished second and third respectively. Perri Ford came in fifth with a time of 2:19.43. Jerono Patrober rounded out the top ten finishers for the Mavericks with an eighth place finish and a time of 2:20.
Not to be out done, the men also fared well in the 800 meter dash. Dwight Robinson finished fourth with a time of 1:54. Anthony Rene was the only other Mav in the top ten. He finished sixth with a time of 1:56.
In the women 400 meter hurdles Megan Turner placed fifth with a time of 1:04. She was the only Maverick to place in the top ten. Aundrea Williams placed sixth in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 54.53.
The field events weren't as kind to UTA thanks to some unfavorably conditions. While the sky was clear and the sun was out, the wind was at full force.
That led to one of the Mavericks most consistent competitors in the men's pole vault, Wade Hayes, to not even place.
Andie Guerra finished in the top ten of the women's long jump however, with a distance of 5.50 meters in tenth place. Her counterpart, Isiah Clements for the men, finished twelfth with a distance of 6.76 meters.
Next up for the men and women is the Texas Relays in Austin on Wednesday, March 31.
