LARAMIE, Wyo. - Amanda Aguilera compiled 12 kills and nine digs in her first start of the 2010 season, but Wyoming bested UT Arlington, 3-0 Friday night at UniWyo Sports Complex.

The Mavericks had difficulty on the attack for the second straight match, managing just a .120 attack percentage. The Cowgirls (10-0) made the most of UTA's errors, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-22 in both teams' second match of the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic.

It took a strong effort in the third set for UTA to finish above the .100-mark on the attack - a fact not lost on UTA coach Diane Seymour, who said her team's psyche could use a boost.

"Unfortunately I can't put my finger on it," Seymour said. "All I can say is when I look at them they don't look confident. I guess that's why we tend to get down."

Aguilera helped jumpstart the offense as Seymour hoped, leading the Mavs in kills, but the dreadful start of the match was too much to overcome.

"The lineup switch was something that gave us a little more offense," UTA coach Diane Seymour said. "Amanda was hitting the ball extremely hard so we thought she would produce some kind of spark for us. Lineup change, no lineup change, we weren't going to win tonight. We got down 10-0 and it kind of dictated what happened in the rest of the match."

Aguilera certainly wasn't alone. The Mavs (3-6) committed 19 attack errors and also had nine service errors against just one ace.

"That was definitely a bad sign for us as well," Seymour said. "Unfortunately we didn't battle until the third set when it was too late."

Defensively, Seymour tried to shake things up by making true freshman Kendall Whitson the libero. Whitson responded with a career-high 10 digs.

Alicia Shaffer, the team's usual libero, came in off the bench and produced eight digs.

Bianca Sauls finished the match with seven kills and 14 digs. Raegan Daniel also had 25 assists in defeat.

Jodi Purdy produced a double-double for Wyoming (10-0) with 12 kills and 12 digs.

Seymour said she hoped her team would carry over its better third-set performance into the rest of the tournament.

"I hope they learned that no matter how bad they start a match they can always end the match on a better note," Seymour said. "We're just going to have to understand that we'll have to play a little bit harder from the start of the match."

The Mavericks play again Saturday at noon when they take on Boise State.
