Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team recorded a 5-1 win and a 4-4 tie in a doubleheader against Weatherford College Wednesday night at Allan Saxe Field.
Head coach Debbie Hedrick said the fall games are very important for evaluating players, and she was pleased with her team's performance last night.
"We use the fall to evaluate where we are from week to week. It gives me a chance to see what we need to work on," Hedrick said. "I feel good about our games tonight. We did a lot of things right, and it gave me a chance to rotate players and get a good look at everybody." Offensively, senior second baseman Courtney Zink and true freshman first-baseman Samantha Kennedy have been strong performers in four games this fall.
Pitching was one of the team's strengths last season, and they've already made a strong impression in 2011. Sophomore Callie Collins hasn't allowed a run in the fall season, and Teri Lyles has allowed only one earned run.
The Mavs were coming off two big wins last week against Odessa College, and their record now stands at 3-0-1 during the fall season.
The Mavericks play again Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they host a double header against North Central College at Allan Saxe Field. Game one starts at 5 p.m.
