ARLINGTON, Tex. - UT Arlington men's basketball signed Grey Gainley, Drew Charles, Deon Rogers and Vincent Dillard to national letters of intent, coach Scott Cross announced Monday.
"I am very excited about this group of young men we have coming in next year," Cross said. "I expect this group to have a tremendous impact on the basketball program over the next several years. We cannot wait to get them on campus next year and see what they will do."
Gainley attended Thurgood Marshall High School in Dayton, Ohio where he was first team All-Area and second team All-State and helped his team to the 2009 state championship game.
The 6-5 forward was named WJCAC first team All-Conference for Region 5 after averaging 14.2 points per game and racking up 20 blocks and 22 steals in 29 games. Gainley is ranked 74th in JUCO Junctions National Top 100 Rankings for 2011-12.
Charles is a 6-2 combo guard from Azel. He averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in his junior season at Azle High School. He was named District 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year in 2009-10 and District 5-4A District MVP in 2010-11.
Charles chose UT Arlington over Stanford, Vanderbilt, SMU, Princeton and several other mid-major Universities.
Rogers is a 6-6 power forward at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth. He was named first team All-District while averaging 14 points, 10.2 rebounds and four blocks per game.
Dillard attended Lake Brantley High School in Florida where he averaged 14.4 points, four rebounds and six assists per game.
The 6-4 guard was named first team All-Seminole Athletic Conference and first team All-District in 2009-10.
He averaged 6.2 points and 2.1 assists per game as a freshman at Colby Community College in Kansas. Dillard was named first team Academic All-Jayhawk Conference in 2010-11 and is currently an NJCAA All-Academic Candidate.
