Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball head coach Samantha Morrow announced the signing of Aron Garcia and Jade Johnson to national letters of intent to play basketball for the Mavericks next season.
Garcia is a junior college transfer from Hill College. She originally signed with TCU out of high school.
The 6-2 forward was ranked as the 34th best senior in the state of Texas prior to her senior season according to ESPN HoopGulrz. Garcia was a 24-5A First Team All-District award winner as a senior, received Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and helped lead Clear Lake High School to the regional semifinal playoffs.
"Aron is one of the top players in the country," Morrow said. "She will step in and challenge for a starting spot immediately."
Johnson, a 5-7 guard from Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 assists per game last season.
She is a three-star prospect on Hoopgurlz and has a scout grade of 84. Jade was named Academic All- District, holds the school record for most assists in a game and season and was named Second Team All-District as a junior.
"Jade is an amazing defensive player. She comes from a winning program and will have a chance to contribute early," Morrow said.
